Learning to Expect the Unexpected:Training Camp

I, having been on an Adventures in Missions trip before, had a few expectations of what training camp would be like.  I expected it to be mostly like last time, and in some ways it was.  I expected to be sleeping in tents with outside showers and porta-pots.  I also expected super high humidity and a little Georgia heat.  When I first arrived at camp, I was pleasantly surprised.         I made a short hike up the little hill to our CABINS.  Unexpected, but I'm totally not complaining.  These things have beds,...

My very first blog ever

I didn’t have a whole lot of expectations for camp. I thought we would be staying in cabins like we have, and that we’d kind of be out in the middle of nowhere, like we are.          Training camp so far has been a lot of fun. I’ve gotten to know so many awesome people, and can’t wait to spend the next 4 months getting to know them more. There have been a lot of fun activities, and I like that they keep us busy because it makes the days go faster, and will bring the trip sooner. It's just been such an awesome experience so...

Expect the Unexpected

I never heard much about this so called "training camp" that AIM does. I wasn't told anything about what we would be doing or what the goal of it was so being the human that I am I made up my own ideas and goals for training camp. They were the following: 1. Get to know my team 2. Get to know the area of the Philippines and what exactly we'd be doing there. On the first day, we were showed to our cabins and then told "Go pick 3 items that you would keep with you for the rest of the night. So I brought my sleeping bag, my pillow and my bible. Then we were told "No...

Handpicked by God

The last two weeks have been a little crazy for me. I came home on the 15th after spending two months in Rwanda and spent the next week at home in Michigan unpacking, repacking, and spending time with my family & friends. Then I flew to Tennessee where I spent four days at Lee with my friends & sister. The time went by so quickly and I never really had time to sit quietly and process my thoughts. So I did not spend any time thinking about what we were going to be doing at training camp and figured I would find out once I arrived Monday night.  Before I left Lee my friends...

Training camp=Amazing!

Training camp has been an amazing experience. First thing is that our team was hand picked by God. We get along great. We have slept outside and had water spit in our faces. We have cried and hiked a long path carrying the weight of our burdens. We have spoken life into other people. God has broken chains and filled us with love. Its funny to see how our group started as quiet observers and now we are the loudest at meals when we play games. We won the dance off and laugh constantly. Personally God has set me free and given me courage to use my voice in ways that I never have before. The...

Woah, Training Camp!

When I would think about training camp, I was not thinking of it as actual camp. I had no idea that it would be like hard core, mega fun summer camp. I was pleasantly suprised! I ADORE it. Although we slept outside on tarps the first night here, i'm suprisingly well rested and totally stoked to get onto the field.      God has really done some amazing things for me since i've been here. The other day we went on a hike carrying our "baggage" from our lives and it was so awesome to let that all go. Worship at night is totally...
