This is only the start of my second week here and the second blog post of my life so cut me some slack, and yes, I know, the title needs some work. It is supposed to be a creative title. I'm still working on that. Anywho allow me to sum up the Philippines in a few words: Uncomfortably hot, unfairly humid, and basketball is life. So this begs the question: what's a hockey kid from Minnesota doing here? Fair question indeed. And if I can be honest, I don't even know. God has brought me here and that's all I really know. He could send me home tomorrow or He could keep me here as long as He wants. But so far, I have experienced so much.
Besides the fact that I am not used to the heat, I don't like sweating constantly from the humidity, and my jump shot is awful, it has been a huge change not knowing exactly what I'll be doing each day. One day I paint, another day I bang on the drums, and another day I get to see a snake eat a bird (thanks Kirk). No matter what happens throghout my day, I encounter so many kids (and usually get stuck shooting some hoops). From ages 1 to 18, from children's homes to the street, from shy to unable to stop talking, every kid has a contagious smile but with a desire for attention and affection that is for the most part nonexistent. I am glad I can bring that to some of these kids. I consider it a huge blessing from God that when I walk down the street I hear those smiley kids' voices yell "Luke!" everytime. I am also very blessed that even though I am 19, God has still kept me a little kid in a lot of ways. Those who know me well know this. Those who know me well I miss very much. And those who know me well; this blog is for you. Thank you for all your prayers, all your support, and all your love. Everything that you have put into my life is being shared with hundreds of kids who are very much in need of something like that.
