As we started our second week in the Philippines, I couldn’t believe it was only a week ago that we were loading on a plane and flying out here. It feels like we have been doing this for a month or two, but it’s awesome to know that we still have three months here. Our team has decided that we were all handpicked by God to be together, and the fact that we’ve all gotten so close so quickly definitely proves that.
Today I was able to go on one of the group feedings, where we go to a place where the people don’t have much of anything, and give out free food. It’s amazing to see how these people are still so happy though. It really makes me cringe when I think about all the times that I’ve felt “hungry”, so I just get up from my giant comfortable chair and go to my fridge where I just take for granted the fact that it’s always filled. We were told that these feedings supply families with the healthiest meal of the week, and sometimes will be the only time they eat that day. It just really helps put things in perspective.
On top of feedings, me and a team mate have been working with college students that were given a job at a software development company. This job provides them with money, and also pays their way through schooling. It’s been a really great chance to get to know these students our own age, and hear their own personal stories. We’ve been able to help them with their English, and they’ve helped teach us about the culture and some of the Tagalog language. All of the ministry opportunities we have been given have just been awesome, and I can’t wait to see what else God is bringing our way!
